I have received the following nominations for Safety Officer: Kelsey Sipes, Logan Donnelly, Trevor Radcliff, and Danielle Woods. Elections will be this Tuesday at the meeting each candidate will be given an opportunity to say why they want to be Safety officer, and why they would be a good choice.
Jessica
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It has been brought to my attention we are meeting 4 times this week so to make things easier on everyone. Tuesday’s Team meeting has been canceled.
Drill Team Members: Coach Jeff said we will go over the music next time we meet, and he will see you at the parade.
Horse Bowl Members: Your next meeting is Thursday December, 11. I will pick up at the high school let me know if you want me to pick up your child. The meeting is 6:00-8:00, please bring a 1 inch binder to put your study materials in.
The link for the Junior and Senior Manual is
http://www.uky.edu/Ag/4hhorse/index_files/Page448.htm if you need a copy, we are not using the additional questions yet. Homework for Seniors is Breeds page 11-13, and the new material will be Anatomy page 2-10. That’s what we will be working on at our next meeting. For the Juniors Equipment Pages 7-11 and Anatomy Section the page numbers are off but it’s the first section in the Junior manual.
Horse Games: Keep eating your eclairs and working on gathering equipment.
Reminder Thursday December 4 at 7:00 at the Extention office is the County 4-H banquet for last year’s members. I encourage everyone who was a member last year to attend. I do not know who is getting any of the awards, they are decided by the county. The Matt Edwards Award, The I Dare You Award, and the Senior Award will all be presented. Please wear your green T-shirts if you know where they are, I believe we are the largest club in the county. They are asking each family to bring a desert (sorry I was wrong about that one.) In addition if you want to participate in the Reading Reindeer program that counts for our participation in a community service project bring in a children’s book to donate.
Christmas Parade: I currently have 6 adults riding: Jeff/Molly, Cyndi, Myself/Sugar Lady, Julie/Pat, Kim, Sherry. I have kids riding: Jordan F/Sweets, Danielle/Redman, Addie/Angel, Lindsey, Logan, Trevor/Zoro, Brandon/Lightning, Amber/Gypsy, Jacob, Kelsey S, Rachel, Haley/Zip.
I still have not heard from the Aldridges, Perry’s, Cody, Candice or Olivia from the drill team, please let me know if you will be riding so we know if we have enough saddle pads. You do not have to be on the drill team to participate, you just need to be a member of the Horse-N-Around club or an adult volunteer. We also have the float for parents or siblings to ride on, unfortunately since we are entered as 4-H horse club no clover buds will be allowed to ride horses but they will be allowed to ride the float with a parent. We are allowed to wear Santa Hats riders under 19 must have on helmets, although I encourage everyone to wear one because of the environment and the surface. We will be riding back to the fairgrounds as a group and will have the float truck to block the riders on the ride back. The float judging is at 8:20, Jeff asked for everyone to be there no later than 8:30 if you are riding to go over drill moves to be done on the parade route. The parade starts at 10:00 AM we will be starting from the Fairgrounds.
The same night we are participating in the Bagdad parade with the float we will not be riding because it is after dark. Everyone riding the float can meet at the Radcliff’s the parade starts at 7:00 PM.
Thanks,
Jessica
OK, I know everyone has been waiting in anticipation of the county’s decision on the Santa hats for the Shelbyville parade. It will be allowed as since we are only wearing hats, riders on the float can wear them and if everyone riding a horse would like to wear one I think Danielle was going to try an X-large hat with some double sided tape on her helmet to put the hat on her helmet. I’ll let you know how that works out.
so far riding in the parade with us I have:
Logan Donnelly
Cyndi Donnelly
Addie Fow/Angel
Lindsey Fow
Jeff Radcliff/Molly
Trevor Radcliff/Zorro
Brandon Radcliff/Lightning
Jessica Woods/Sugar Lady
Danielle Woods/Red Man
Amber Woods/Gypsy
Jordan Franklin/Sweets
Julie*Adult Volunteer/Pat
Haley G/Zip
Kim Sipes
Rachel Sipes
Kelsey Sipes
Sherry Pilson
Jacob Pilson
So far I have 18, if you are planning on coming to ride with the club let me know so we make sure we have enough saddle pads or if those of us with Red ones need to bring those. Jeff also needs some idea how many he is working with since we will have a short time to practice before the parade.
Thanks,
Jessica Woods
Here is some parade information for everyone. The club is participating
in 2 parades on Saturday December 6.
The first parade is The Shelbyville Christmas parade at 10:00 AM we are
meeting at the fairgrounds Check-in for floats will be from 7:30 AM to
8:20 AM at the fairgrounds. Floats need to be parade ready by 8:30 AM
for judging. Any full 4-H member, or parent may ride their horse in the
parade, we had originally wanted parent volunteers to ride because we
were not going to have a safety vehicle with the riders but since we are
putting the float a head of the riders it is not as important to
actually put adults on horse back so that part is totally up to you if
you want to brave it on horse back or trade off with someone that’s
fine. Trailers and horses will be meeting at the fairgrounds as well.
We will be riding back to the fairgrounds at the end so you can leave
your trailers at the fairgrounds. If you are on the drill team, or want
to ride with the drill team Jeff would like you there by 8:30 to go over
some simple drill moves to do on the parade route. If you just want to
ride with the club you can come a little later but I would say by at
least 9:00-9:15, same with float riders. All riders under 19 will need
to wear their helmet, NO EXCEPTIONS and I would “strongly suggest”
everyone over 19 wear one as well since it is a parade setting and we
are riding on concrete. Clover buds may ride the float in either parade
with a parent.
The second parade is the Bagdad Parade at 7 PM we will NOT be riding
horses in the dark. Everyone who wants to participate will be riding
the 4-H float. Everyone needs to wear their best Santa Hat We will be
meeting at the Radcliff’s house where there is plenty of parking at 4761
Elmburg Road. Coming from Bagdad it is the second driveway on your right
past Vigo Road. We will ride the float from the Radcliff’s to the
parade.
The Shelbyville parade has a “Santa” restriction, I am waiting for a
response from Shelbyville I am sure the “Santa hats” will be OK for the
float in Shelbyville as well but I want to make sure. I will let you
know their answer when I get it. I have attached the information on the
Shelby County parade the county sent me, the form has already been
filled out and sent in for the club.
What I need from everyone is, If you are participating in the
Shelbyville Parade I need the number of riders, and the name of the
horses being rode so I can make sure we have coggins and a health
certificate on file. If you do not have coggins, and a health
certificate on file you can bring me COPIES at the 4-H County wide
banquet which is Thursday December 4 at 7 PM, please bring a new
children’s book to donate for the book drive. The dinner is usually
pizza and the awards given out that night include “The Matt Edwards
Award”, “The Senior Award”, and the “I dare you award.” They don’t tell
me who is getting the awards until they are given but I do know several
nominations have been made for kids in our club so it’s important that
we show our support and attend if you can. This banquet is all 4-H
club’s in the county and as we are the largest club in the county so it
would be nice if we all wore our green T-shirts (under your jacket’s of
course.)
If you are riding the float at either Shelbyville or Bagdad I need a
number of people riding as well, so we make sure to have enough room for
everyone.
Also, a big thank you to everyone who braved the cold today to work on
the float, thank you to Cyndi and the Donnelly men for taking on the
project, and thank you to the Radcliff’s for providing the trailer, and
the Franklins for all the lights, the Fow’s and Chey McCarthy for
braving the cold and the great idea’s, especially Addie who seemed to be
the only one who knew how to assemble the Christmas Tree.
Reminder of 4-H meeting on Tuesday November 18, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the extention office. This will be an important meeting to go over the final draft of
the clubs constitution which is attached for your review. If you have any
suggestions, comments, complaints, opinions please save them for discussion at
the meeting since it was drafted by the committee and I wasn’t at the
meeting.
I have had a few complaints about the use of the “reply all” button, when
responding to my e-mail’s please only use that if your reply is important to the
entire club. Stuff such as being late to meetings, or being ill, or that I
misspelled something in my e-mail really only need to be sent to me. We do
have a forum on our web site for open discussion involving the club for
member’s only to share opinions, complaints, compliments or general discussion.
If this is not working for you or you need help registering please let
Christine McCarthy know by e-mailing her at: christine@aaronmccarthy.com . Also if you would rather not be on themailing list at all and want to be responsible for checking the web site for announcements instead of receiving e-mails. please let me know that as well and I will remove you. All e-mails I send out for the club will be posted to the web site.
Also, I have a few kids that were enrolled last year that are not enrolled
yet this year 4-H rules give you until January 1st. However, you will be
removed from the e-mail list if you are not registered or let me know you would
like to remain on the list. The Newberry’s will remain on the list as long as
they want to be, or they request to be removed because of their ongoing
commitment and investment in the Shelby County Horse-N-Around club.
Thank You for everyone’s patience during my employment changes,
Jessica
