4H Meeting Reminder – Tues., April 15th 7pm

Just a reminder tomorrow night we have a 4-H meeting at 7:00 PM. We are completing the District and State registration forms.

You must bring the following forms in order to register:
1. Eligibility form on your Project horse
2. District Registration form
3. State Registration form with the same classes listed as on your district form.
4. If you are a Drill Team member, a second State form must be filled out with the information on the horse you are riding in Drill Team even if it is your project horse.
5. If you do not own your project horse a Lease/Loan agreement must be completed and signed.

6. A check for $50.00 made out to District 3 Horse Management Team. (Checks will be cashed May 1.)
7. A copy of your Coggins and Health Certificates on both your Project and Drill team horses.

Ride-A-Thon money is also due with your pledge sheets tomorrow. There will be a prize awarded to the member with the most money raised. (Yes, you can still add to your pledge sheets until tomorrow night).

Drill Team: There will be no fee’s this year for Drill Team State registration since the drill team has enough funds to pay the $400.00 entry fee for the team. Hopefully we will have the completed Drill team schedule by tomorrow. The next Drill Team practice will be with horses this Friday at the Waddy Arena 7PM. Be ready to ride. Remember if you can’t make it you need to call Jeff, or Yvette.

Web Site: The web site is up and running! Go to forums and sign up to be a member. You must use your real name so we know who you are. A new addition to the web site – if you have photo’s from Districts or States you can send them to the web site and share them with the whole club. Click on the Contact Us link at the top of the page.

Sorry, so many notes but as most of you know the paperwork will take up most of tomorrow night’s time, so we will have a very short meeting.

4H Update

Sorry this is so late, we were waiting for Jeff to get back in town to check with him.

The people from the barn were happy with the way the barn was returned, Michael spent two hours out there Sunday morning, cleaning the barn up, making repairs in the grass, and picking up horse poop in the roadways. They do rent out the facility, it’s not available this Friday and it will be too wet to have practice with horses any where else. Jeff would like to have a “no horse” practice tomorrow if Yvette can get the church location for us. Watch for an e-mail from Yvette to see if we will have a “no horse” practice tomorrow at 7 PM. Michael is working on scheduling drill team practices for the season and should have a schedule available at Tuesdays meeting (April 15th).

Tuesday, April 15th we will have our monthly meeting which will mostly be filling out District and State paperwork. You need to bring $50.00 entry fee, coggins and health certification for your show and drill team horse. Also, your Ride-a-Thon money is due on Tuesday as well. I don’t have totals for everyone but the 10 I do have is over $1300.00 and we still have 15 participants I don’t have pledge sheets from. We had 25 members attend the Ride-A-Thon, and remember the participant who has the most in pledge money will get a prize Tuesday donated by the Old Horseman. The highest pledge sheet I have received so far is $321.00.

Thanks,

Jessica Woods

Aldridge Fire

As most of you know one of Shelby County 4-H Horse-N-Around family’s house burned last weekend. The family consists of 5 children and 2 adults. The upper level of the home was destroyed while the basement was salvageable. The three oldest boys rooms were located in the basement, the majority of loss was the parents and the two youngest children. Thank God their was no one was injured during this fire!!!!!

Several of you have been calling and e-mailing asking what we can do. Michael was able to speak to Joshua today who said they are all currently staying with family and the support from the Red Cross and his employer, the school and the community has been amazing, they appreciate all the support they have received from everyone.

The Red Cross did put out the following sizes yesterday to the schools who are collecting things through youth services until this Friday.

Boys Age 11 & 12
Both boys were Men’s size 8 shoe
Need socks in either Men’s small or Boys XL
Underwear in Size 14

Boy age 15
12D Men’s Shoe
Socks for 12D shoe size
34 waist for underwear

Boy Age 7 (Bed room destroyed lost everything)
Size 1 Shoes
101/2-3 Socks
size 8 in underwear
Size 8 Reg in pants
size 8-10 in Shirts
also needs PJ’s

Toys, Movies, and Books all lost: He likes transformers, Spiderman, Batman,
and Western

Girl Age 6
6 slim Pants-Loves Wrangler Jeans
7-8 in Shirts
Needs PJ’s-Disney Princes
Does not need underwear or socks

She also lost all toys, books, movies: She likes Disney, Early Lindsay Lohan Movies, parents request no Bratz dolls stuff.

The children also lost their school supplies, backpacks, notebooks, paper, pencils etcetera, The schools are gathering those items for the kids.

The schools are also collecting money until Friday to get dinning cards and Wal-Mart cards through youth services.

So after speaking to Joshua that they seem to have a lot of groups helping them out right now so the bigger concern will be once they are able to rebuild, household items , stuff like that keep in minds so when they are ready we can help during that part of the process. If our help is needed before then the Aldridges said they will let us know. I will also pass this on to Spencer County Saddle Club they had been asking how to help.

So what we will be doing as a group for 4-H is be there ready to do or help with whatever this family needs. This will probably be a little farther down the road. Of course continue to support through red cross and through the school for clothing donations this week. If I hear of another need that has not been put out I will let you know as soon as possible.

Thank You,
Jessica & Michael Woods
